Terms of Use

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, and by creating one you confirm that you are. We delete any account we learn belongs to someone under 13 (see Children's privacy). If you're under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent or guardian's permission. You can search and play as a guest; some features need an account.

Keep your sign-in details secure; you're responsible for what happens on your account. Choose a username that isn't offensive and doesn't impersonate anyone. We may change a username that breaks these terms.

So that games stay fun for everyone, you agree not to:

• use bots, scripts, browser extensions or other automation to play, search or submit words;
• exploit bugs, interfere with other players' games, or try to get around rate limits or bans;
• harass, threaten or abuse other players, or post hateful, sexual or illegal content in chat or usernames;
• scrape the dictionary or search results in bulk, or overload the service;
• break the law, or help anyone else do any of the above.

Chat is checked automatically for slurs and abuse. If you break these rules we may remove content, reset stats, or suspend or ban your account or IP address, with or without warning.

Premium is a subscription billed through Stripe. It renews automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel, change your card or see invoices any time from Manage subscription in your profile's menu. If you cancel, Premium stays active until the end of the period you've paid for. Prices are shown before you pay, and we'll tell you before a price changes for an existing subscription. Payments aren't refundable except where the law requires it. Core search and gameplay stay free.

Word definitions are written by AI and may contain mistakes; they're for reference, not authority. The substring.app app, design and code are ours. Your username and chat messages remain yours, and you give us permission to show them to other players as part of the service.

We work to keep substring.app running smoothly, but it may sometimes be unavailable, and features may change or be removed. Game rooms are temporary and can end, for example during maintenance.

substring.app is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties about it, including that it will be error-free or uninterrupted, and we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data, scores or rankings. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be waived.

You can stop using substring.app at any time, and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. If we close an account with an active Premium subscription for a reason other than a breach, we'll refund the unused part.

We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and tell you in the app about significant changes. If you keep using substring.app after a change, the new terms apply.
